Chesapeake Bay Initiative
The Chesapeake Bay Initiative continues to help address the problems of non-point source pollution by restoring, enhancing,
protecting and managing wetlands and associated uplands or the Chesapeake Bay watershed. This past year, DU and
its conservation partners completed 25 projects restoring 175 acres of wetland and 76 acres of
upland habitat, and implementing 25 acres of forested riparian buffers. This initiative is critical to the
annual life cycle needs of waterfowl and numerous wildlife species that depend upon the Chesapeake Bay.

| In Lehigh County, Ducks Unlimited and its partners designed and implemented a
“total restoration package” for the Moyer Farm. Each partner provided a key
component of the total restoration. By providing funds for fencing and establishing riparian buffers under the
Habitat Stewardship Program, DU excluded cattle from 2,700 feet of the Little
Lehigh Creek, which is a Class A” Wild Trout Stream. The USFWS restored 30
acres of warm season grasses that will serve as excellent dense nesting cover for
grassland species. The Delaware River Keepers

with the buffer planting and design of the stream restoration. The
Wildlands Conservancy implemented the stream work, enabling the stream channel
to return to its normal width. The Moyer Farm is now a showcase working farm that
practices state of the art Conservation, with benefits to waterfowl, fish and many other
species of wildlife. |
